Matthew 5:1-18 KJV
[1] And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
[2] And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
[3] Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The poor in spirit are those on the quest for understanding the self. They seek to find their purpose in creation and live in humility among the creative forces of life . They consider themselves instrument of and care taker to the physical creation .
The poor in spirit are revealed in their humanity for the life giving Spirit in creation. Historically they fight for the dignity of all created being and the vehicle that enhances human potential.
Few humans achieve these levels of poverty in spirit as many forego the luxury ,fame and prestige of this world . Mahatma Gandhi, Surjouner Truth , Malcolm X, Dorothy Day and Martin Luther King are a few of these people.
Each generation ,each culture embodies those souls that sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Godly fear and awe is the character trait of these individuals . Not only do they fight for human dignity but also for the earth and its plant ,animals , water and other resources as well as health hazards in our environment . In our modern age they are called ‘whistle blowers’ exposing the lie that covers man’s humanity to others.
4] Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
To mourn is to be receptive to the spirit of repentance and feel regret for human action or inaction . Accepting the cycle of nature as a shadow of the true reality of the unknowable ,as well as the short time of human life on planet earth they seek to prolong longevity and ease physical as well as spiritual suffering .
They will not accept the status quo but struggle to allow humanity to find comfort in other than self and aggrandizement of worldly comfort . These are are fellow with a missionary zeal to teach ,search for knowledge and offer a legacy of support to the broken hearted, disfranchised and the seekers of righteousness.
5] Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Anyone understanding that the earth is the womb of creation and in many areas realize that it’s reassures have a limit ,accept and use them with dignity . The crown of the earth is man ,man has the task to recreate the earth and maintain its aura ,in doing so he creates his own aura or ethereal body for the glory of His Majesty ,God.
The meek takes only what is necessary from the environment ,food , shelter and the resources of earth . The meek understand their place as physical organisms enfolding a spiritual soul . Earth is transitory and school for the grand hope of the ages ,to be incarnated and resurrected in a paradise of God.
How do you understand the others at a personal level ?
[6] Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
[8] Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
[9] Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10] Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
[11] Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you , and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
The confirmation of the application of these are the reward for true spiritual practices in our lives as we live day to day in our communities.
12] Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. [
13] Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
[14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
[15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
[17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
